These are the basics that you will need to know as a travel agent before you can book the tour. Your goal will be to find as many tours that fit your genre or niche as possible. You will then want to talk to other travel agents (which is one good reason for joining associations) about this tour supplier. What have they heard? A host agency that has been working with a tour operator or packager for 20 years is a good sign. It means that they have a trusting relationship.

You can also arrange your own tours by putting together the various components yourself. This gives you the freedom to pick and choose the various elements of the tours(s) you wish to offer and make them your own. However, it’s hard to run a travel agency and handle the specific aspects of the tours yourself. Additionally, you will not get the discounts that a tour operator will get because he or she is buying in bulk to sell tours to many travel agents.
